Lent Bumps 2019: as it happened

Getting-on-race: 1st March 2019

W2 put in a good effort and did themselves proud during the race. However, they sadly didn’t get-on on the day, but they will be back stronger for may bumps.

Bumps: 4th-9th March 2019

Day 1:

W1: The first race was at the top of div3, which they rowed over comfortably and winding it down towards the end. The 2nd race was at the bottom of div 2. W1 started strong and getting to within a canvas of Clare W2 in front of them before the motorway bridge. Sadly, Clare W2 bumped Pembroke W2 just after the motorway bridge meaning they had to row past, with a good line from Mary, to go for the over bump. Sadly, the crews above Pembroke also bumped out meaning there was no one to catch. Corpus did two good solid row overs.

M1: Corpus got of to a good start gaining ground on Caius M2 in front of them, however then Mark Allingham’s seat came off meaning only 7 members were rowing. This caused Lady Margret M2 to catch up and bump.

Day 2:

W1: Had a solid row over at the top of Div 3, putting a good 15 lengths on St Catherine’s W2 behind them.

Day 3:

W1: Smashed it off the start to bump Pembroke W2 before the motorway bridge to get out of sandwich position. – Well Done Corpus.

M1: Corpus got caught by Selwyn M1, who went on to get blades and the stronger crew on the day.

Day 4:

W1: Performed 2 strong starts (as there was a re-row) and caught Lady Margret W2 before the motorway bridge.

M1: Another malfunction with the seats left 6 seats Sam Rogers only able to row with the hips and arms. Despite this they put in an almighty performance to hold of Eddies until the Plough.

Day 5:

W1: Bumped Newnham W2 in the fastest time yet, bumping them before the motorway bridge, having moved up 2 start positions. This left them with an overall score of +3 for the week. As they say good crews go up 3 and lucky crews get blades. W1 was unlucky on the first day but overall they should be very proud and showed the world that they are indeed the fastest crew in the world.

M1: Corpus was on spoons but there was all to play for, they switched to the Janousek (Trading places) instead of the Hudson, in hope that there would be no issues with seats coming off. Corpus put in one of the best performances in bumps, to hold Darwin M1 behind them at a canvas the whole way down the reach. Just at the P&E, Eddies in front of them fell apart meaning Corpus bumped them in a shocking turn of events. In that single bump Corpus M1 saved themselves from spoons and denied both Darwin and Eddies blades.

With W1 going +3 and M1 going -2, Corpus is in good spirts and is now looking forward to taking on Mays!
